Review:
I Am Flippish! is a wonderful story that speaks of diversity. Learning about ones ancestors, where they came from and why we all look the way we do because of them, is very important. It proves many things about us, but the one thing it also shows is that even though we may look different, we are all still connected. We are a country of diversity and it's something we should all be proud of. Leslie Ryan does a wonderful job of helping to answer the simple question of, "Why don't I look like you?" Children of all ages will enjoy this 38 page picture book.
Bio:
Leslie V. Ryan graduated from University of
California, at Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in Legal Studies and Japanese
Language. Her love for books began when she started reading at a young age of
four and the love still continues today. Recently, the passion for reading books
turned into a newfound love of writing them. Illustrator Biography: The
illlustrator Adolph Soliz is a graduate from the Laguna College of Art and
Design with a BFA in animation. Adolph, who is "Indixican", brings charming and
endearing characters to life in all media. Which means you'll never find him
without his sketchbook, observing the world and people around him. Along with
illustrating children's books he also teaches art to young aspiring artists.
Summary:
Sean is excited because today is his dad’s turn to help out at school! But when Sean’s classmates start asking questions about why Sean and his dad look different from each other, Sean starts to wonder too. With the help of their teacher, the students learn a few things about diversity, family and where we really came from. And along the way, Sean teaches his friends just how wonderful it is to be different!
